BIO

Entering the world of Hanna Hedman, a visual artist based in Stockholm, Sweden, one finds themselves on a fantasy journey through a number of otherworldly landscapes. It all started with the body that Hanna used as a scenery to accommodate her imaginative microcosms full of vivid organisms. Like with any lively entity, as time passes, the urge to grow and transit becomes undeniable, and so does Hedman’s work.

In recent years, Hedman's work has grown in synergy with its surroundings, becoming a part of the living nature and beings around it. The allure of her artwork is based on an extensive process where intuition, repetition, and deep listening allow for reflection and admiration. Although she uses her jewelry background and fondness for metalwork as a foundation in her practice, it is the thought process that occurs through her hands and connection to craftsmanship and environmental consciousness that informs her choices at every stage of the creative process. Her ability to remain open-minded throughout the creation process then determines the final selection of mediums and materials.

Public commissions like “Vuxit upp ihop” that make most of Hanna Hedman's recent work are the perfect vehicle for collaboration, which is so valued in her process. From working with children to artisans from the collective SVART with whom she shares her studio, Hanna's work proves the power of collaboration and the infinite possibilities it offers.
